Thanks for making the 9th season of WRS Youth Basketball a success!
Registration: Friday, September 6, 2013 - November 13, 2013
Mid-November through beginning of March
Nine to 10 weeks
Currently, our season is eight games long and each game takes approximately one hour to play.
Evaluations are not a try-out. The purpose of evaluation night is to rate the skills of each player, so that we can place players on teams to where the teams are as evenly matched as possible. Your child will also try on their uniforms to make sure the correct size is ordered. Your child only needs to come to one of the 3 nights of evaluations.
Practices are once a week on either Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Practice times are either 5:30-6:15, 6:15-7:15 or 7:15-8:15 PM.
You may let us know of any conflicts you may for a specific practice night when your child comes through evaluations. However, due to the size of the league and the way individuals are placed on teams so that they are evenly matched, we do not guarantee practice night requests. We also do not honor coaching requests unless the coach is a parent or guardian. We DO honor practice night requests for our volunteer coaches.
Registration is preferred to be done online and begins in October, ending in mid-November. If you would rather register manually, please contact the office at 773-2233.
WRS is a grade-based program, not an age-based program. We offer leagues from kindergarten through eigth grade for both boys and girls. Operating off of our fiscal calendar which runs from August - July, a boy/girl must be in Kindergarten during the season in which they are playing to participate.
Your registration fee of $80, includes a team jersey, practice t-shirt, drawstring bag and water bottle. All team equipment for practice and games in regard to balls, wrist-bands (for defensive guarding purposes), cones, practice jerseys (pennies), etc., is provided by the league. Players will need to have their own athletic shoes, though basketball-specific shoes are recommended, not required.
For the most part, the game rules are the same as high school basketball, but are tailored to be age and skill level appropriate.
Participants in the league are not required to be members of White River Christian Church or of any church. The league is designed as a community league open to anyone, regardless of church affiliation.
While standings are not kept, we do offer a season ending Tournament in the 4th-8th grade divisions. The league is designed to teach and emphasize fundamentally sound basketball and provide players the opportunity to compete.
Anyone is eligible to apply to coach in the league, however, we do complete background checks on all coaching applicants and reserve the right to accept or decline coaches on the basis of our discretion.
