Important Announcement, 2/22/2012:

Announcement on Measles Concerns & Response - We are OPEN FOR CHURCH THIS WEEKEND!

With the recent outbreak of measles in Hamilton County we are being proactive to help keep your family safe. We are taking every precaution possible to protect the health of our church community. Measles is easily spread from infected individuals to people who are not immune. Please take this opportunity to place the health of your family first.

We will be opening the Babies and Preschool Ministry for this weekend. Please understand that we cannot assure that we are a measles free facility. We recommend that any child that has not been immunized stay home for at least one more week.

Our facilities are completely safe and sanitized; this measure is due to the person-to-person nature of measles transmission. In other words, per the advisement of the Indiana Department of Health, we encourage participation only if you fit these criteria:

  1. You are fully immunized (one shot for adults, two for children) or otherwise immune from measles (e.g., from contracting it in the past)
  2. You are healthy and not pregnant
  3. You are older than age six

More About Youth Basketball

When is the season?

Mid-November through beginning of March

How long is the season?

Nine to 10 weeks

How many games and how long are they?

Currently, our season is seven games long and each game takes approximately one hour to play.

What is the duration and frequency of practices?

Practices are currently one hour long, once a week.

When and how do we register?

Registration can be done online, in person or by the mail and begins in October, ending in mid-November.

How old does my child have to be to participate?

WRS is a grade-based program, not an age-based program. We offer leagues from kindergarten through eigth grade for both boys and girls. Operating off of our fiscal calendar which runs from August - July, a boy/girl must be in Kindergarten during the season in which they are playing to participate.

What is the registration cost? What does it include? What do I need to buy?

Your registration fee of $80, includes a team jersey, t-shirt, and more. All team equipment for practice and games in regard to balls, wrist-bands (for defensive guarding purposes), cones, practice jerseys (pennies), etc., is provided by the league. Players will need to have their own athletic shoes, though basketball-specific shoes are recommended, not required.

What are the game rules?

For the most part, the game rules are the same has high school basketball, but are tailored to be age and skill level appropriate.

Do we have to be members of the church?

Participants in the league are not required to be members of White River Christian Church or of any church. The league is designed as a community league open to anyone, regardless of church affiliation.

Do you keep standings?

While standings are not kept, we do offer a season ending Tournament in the 5th/6th grade division. The league is designed to teach and emphasize fundamentally sound basketball and provide players the opportunity to compete.

Can I coach in the league?

Anyone is eligible to apply to coach in the league, however, we do complete background checks on all coaching applicants and reserve the right to accept or decline coaches on the basis of our discretion.
