Reminding the elderly that God has not forgotten them.
Small acts of kindness, a simple word, touching a hand, or even just a smile mean a great deal to those who feel alone and abandoned; to those who feel they are no longer part of the world that they once lived in and contributed to. Our purpose: reaching out to the senior community in their final chapter of life and encourage them that they do indeed matter, that they are deeply loved by God, and that they are not alone nor forgotten. Many, who have rejected Him earlier in life are most receptive to God's grace in their final stages. Thus, it's a joy for the nursing home volunteer team to be God's hands and feet to the seniors in our community!
How Can I Help?
WRCC offers several opportunities and projects where volunteers of all ages can serve seniors, both on location with residents and behind the scenes.
On location with residents:
Offer bingo
Facilitating devotions/bible studies
Friendly visits
Pet visits
Musical performances (sing/play instruments)
Teaching/making crafts
Reading to residents
Behind the scenes:
Sewing wheelchair/walker bags
Preparing birthday cards
Coloring "Jesus Loves You" cards (great for kids)
Sorting or distributing donations
Making fleece blankets (SERVE Noblesville project)
Donating bingo prizes:
Stuffed animals (any size...this is our #1 bingo prize requested)
Puzzles (25-50 pieces)
Adult coloring books w/pencils
Crossword Puzzles (large print)
Sudoku (large print)
Word Search (large print)
Necklaces
Signs, figurines, knick knacks
Christian knick knacks
Lotion, pump hand soap, chapstick
Lap blankets (fleece, knitted, etc.)
Scarves or wraps (for warmth)
