Upward Soccer is changing for the best!
Upward Soccer season is changing to Spring, and the format of the league is also going through some changes as well.
Watch a video from Upward Unlimited that helps explains these changes, and answers all your questions.
This new format is called Micro-Soccer. The name comes from the 4 on 4 player format, and the games are played on a shorter field with smaller goals. This is a format that has been fully endorsed by Upward, as well as the US Youth Soccer. It has been proven to teach kids the fundamentals more effectively, and provide a more exciting game as well. 4 players from each team will play at a time, and there will be no more than 8 players on a team.
"But this isn't real soccer?" This is a question that we often hear. We understand the concern, but there has been studies both by Upward and other youth sports organizations, and have decided that this is the best way to truly teach kids basic fundamentals. A child comes in contact with the ball more, is able to play each position throughout the course of the game, take and defend more shots on goal, and the format provides a higher scoring, more exciting game.
