Kenya, East Africa

The Republic of Kenya is a country in East Africa. It is bordered by Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the northeast, Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, and Sudan to the northwest, with the Indian Ocean running along the southeast border. The capital city is Nairobi. The country is named after Mount Kenya, a very significant landmark and the second among the highest mountain peaks of Africa, and both were originally usually pronounced /ˈki¢°njə/ in English although the native pronunciation and the one intended by the original transcription Kenia was [ˈkenia]. Before 1920, the area now known as Kenya was known as the British East Africa Protectorate and so there was no need to mention mount when referring to the mountain.

Celebrate our Recent Trip | Hear from the team that just got back

People participating in Kenya Mission Trips will be able to join either the Massai Medical Team, or Narobi Urban Poor Team. White River is partnering with CMF Internationial for it's Kenya Mission Trips.

Narobi Urban Poor Team
Bryan & Kelly, Brock, Keith & Kathy Ham, Wallace & Mary Kamau, and Lee & Anne Marie Pruitt partner with Kenyans from the slum communities in serving the poor of Nairobi. The team uses Community Health Evangelism (CHE), a proven program through local churches that assists the urban poor and brings transformation through available resources, training, microenterprise, optimism, and faith. The team specifically works with the Missions of Hope International, which provides education, clothing, and adequate nutrition to the poorest children in the Mathare slum -- one of the worst slums in Africa.

Maasai Medical Team
Among the Maasai people, Dan & Connie Crum, Lynn & Dori Cazier, and Joe & Kim Cluff continue to train church leaders, strengthen the churches, and help with the construction of new church buildings. As ministries mature, CMF missionaries turn over local administration and oversight to national partners. Joshua & Ruth Barron are developing training and teaching materials for the churches in the Maa language.

The medical ministry among the Maasai is currently overseen by Maasai personnel under the guidance of the team. Eight CMF clinics treat tropical diseases, immunize children, and combat the HIV/AIDS crisis by offering blood testing and counseling services, medical treatment for opportunistic infections such as tuberculosis or pneumonia as well, provide antiretroviral medications to extend the quality of life of those affected, and set-up home-based care for those who are too ill to come to the clinic.
