New Mission Systems International is solidly evangelical in belief and unashamedly evangelistic in action, knowing that we are commanded to disciple the nations.

Derek & Ashley Ried are midwesterners who attended Lincoln College. Ashley (Adams) grew up at WRCC and took her first mission trip with our youth group to Panama. Throughout college, they each took several international trips, having the opportunity to experience missions in several different contexts such as England, Haiti, and Jamaica. In the summer of 2004, God gave them a chance to intern with New Mission Systems International. Derek spent two months in Malawi building relationships with nationals and doing an orphan feeding program while Ashley spent two months in Kenya working in HIV/AIDS prevention education and doing Community Health Evangelism. Upon returning from Africa, both Derek and Ashley were transformed in their thinking about what international ministry looked like, and knew that they would one day return to the mission field.

After getting married in the summer of 2005, the Rieds moved to Orlando Florida where Derek was a youth pastor for two and a half years, and Ashley worked in Operations Management. In March 2008, the Rieds knew that God was indeed calling them into vocational mission work and, although it broke their hearts to leave student ministry, they knew God had a plan for them to work cross-culturally.

Derek and Ashley are passionate about seeking new, innovative ways of doing international ministry, while maintaining traditional values and a core focus on Christ. They can see the abilities and experiences that God has given them to share in the context of international ministry and are excited to use their particular giftings in new ways. They currently live in Orlando, Florida and are working on fund raising. Derek has joined the Short Term Ministries Division and Ashley is on the HIVHope team.

The Short Term Ministries Division facilitates short term trips, internships and apprenticeships. Derek helps create, lead and train individuals and groups so that they can best see and participate in what God is doing around the world. He is looking forward to working mainly with young adults, though project participants vary in age.

HIVHope is a holistic ministry that speaks into the HIV/AIDS pandemic that the world is facing. Ashley's passion for sustainable and efficient operational practices will be used as she plays an administrative role within this ministry.

Derek & Ashley need a solid backing of prayer. They need prayers for God's Spirit to build the foundation for their ministry and relationship with people all over the world. They also need financial support. They need several churches to anchor their ministry and many individuals to complete the support partnership. Support partners may contribute monthly, quarterly or annually. One time donations are also welcome and will be added into their annual budget.
