Project 3.19

God has blessed us individually and as a church family throughout 2009. As we conclude this year, we want to be faithful and generous in our financial giving to accomplish our financial priorities. We feel led by God to provide financial support for our financial priorities and to take on a Special Project in partnership with Deer Creek Community Church. Deer Creek plans to launch a new “life enrichment ministry” called On Track in downtown Noblesville. Partnering with other churches, government and business leaders, On Track will provide a number of community resources and will work with individuals to develop a plan that will put them on a track to realize their life goals.

On Track | A Faith Based Life Enrichment Ministry
In the city of Noblesville alone, 8,658 individuals are unemployed and without a clear plan to move forward in their life. The effect on families is devastating and the cost to government is high. Unmeasured are the people who are under-employed and unhappy performing jobs that they have no passion for.

Pastor Jay Miller of Deer Creek Community Church believes that the faith community holds the keys to unlocking the purpose and plan that God has for every person struggling to get on track in life. Deer Creek plans to launch a new "life enrichment ministry" called On Track in downtown Noblesville. Partnering with other churches, government and business leaders, On Track will provide a number of community resources and will work with individuals to develop a plan that will put them on a track to realize their life goals. Pastor Miller says that scripture tells us that "God made everything with a place and a purpose" and that you can "Form your purpose by asking for counsel, and then carry it out using all the help you can get." (Proverbs 16:4; 20:18).

On Track will provide computer resources, skills training, and job placement assistance in addition to life skills instruction, mentoring and education assistance. At the heart of On Track says Pastor Miller, is helping people uncover the passion God has blessed them with and conveying the promise that He has given us all, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

The Challenge

To reach this God-sized goal, we are challenging each person who calls White River home to continue the financial commitments they have made for 2009 and help us reach our weekly average need of $48,380 AND to sacrificially give $3.19 per day for the remaining 8 weeks of 2009 (totaling $178 per giving unit above their normal financial gift). Opportunities to contribute to this challenge are offered in each Sunday worship service at offering (check made payable to WRCC) and/or by visiting the church office during normal office hours (8:00am-4:30pm).

Some Simple Suggestions
Here are some simple and practical ways to fulfill the goal of giving $178 in addition to your regular financial support before the end of 2009:

  • Make a cup of coffee at home and donate the cost of the daily latte ($3.50/day)
  • Eat a family meal at home weekly and donate the cost of the meal ($25/week)
  • Rent 3 movies and enjoy a bag of microwave popcorn at home with the family during the holidays instead of going to the theatre ($178/season)

Involving the Next Generation
This challenge is not just for the grownups. Every person can make a difference. Here are some age appropriate challenges being made to the kids:

  • Babies/Preschool/Elementary Each child will be given a collection jug to gather coins to total at least $3.19 between now and the end of 2009.
  • Jr. High/High School Each student is being challenged to collect $3.19 a week to be collected at the Project 3.19 collection box during their programming.

How is Project 3.19 funded?

The funding for Project 3.19 is based on each family in the congregation giving an additional $3.19 per day (or $178 total) during the last 7 weeks of 2009. White River continues to be generous in our giving with an average of $50,800 per week in 2009.  To completely fill bucket 4 we need a weekly average of $80,000 per week through the remainder of 2009.

Deer Creek will receive funds from Special Projects, in Bucket 5. Through the generosity of White River, the first 4 buckets must be filled prior to contributing financially to the On Track ministry partnership with Deer Creek.

What Are the Financial Priorities at WRCC?

The priorities that direct the spending at WRCC are all broken into 5 "buckets". We use this bucket analogy to demonstrate how the money flows thru the priorities. All funds that come to WRCC are essentially poured into the first bucket, and then the overflow continues to fill the rest of the buckets as funds allow. Each week all the funds are poured into Bucket 1 and the remaining buckets are all filled until the funds are depleted.

  1. Principles, Commitments & Staff
Each Monday, a check is written for 8% of weekly offering to Global Expansion and 3% of to Community Works. Funds for the mortgage, payroll, & employee benefits are also reserved weekly.
  2. Ministry Programming
Each Monday, ministry programming resource requests are prioritized according to the 2009 Budget and available funds. Examples of programming expenses include children’s curriculum, coffee, counseling, small group materials, office supplies, subscriptions & professional fees, worship music & information technology, etc. (In 2009 the Ministry Programming budget equals approximately 50% less than 2008).
  3. Operational Readiness Fund
Designed as an “emergency fund”, for unexpected expenses, and periods of decreased cash flow.
  4. Debt Reduction Fund
In addition to WRCC’s regular mortgage payment of $38,000/month, additional payments are made to reduce the outstanding debt and expedite payoff of the loan.
  5. Special Projects
Special projects as defined by the Eldership. (i.e. Deer Creek Community Church)

Snapshot of Project 3.19

  • Our weekly offering total has slumped in the 3rd quarter
  • We need an additional $178,701 above our weekly average need of $48,380 to fund priority 3 (operational readiness fund) and priority 4 (debt reduction) as we close out 2009
  • This amounts to $22,338 additional giving per week over the next 8 weeks
  • Over 8 weeks, that is only $178 per family (1,000 currently-giving units give just $22.34 more per week) ($3.19 per day)
  • After we have funded priorities 3 and 4, we will be prepared to undertake additional projects as directed by priority 5
  • The opportunity to participate in Project 3.19 is available through our regular giving options (weekly offering, electronic donation). No special collection is being made.
  • God has established a Kingdom partnership between WRCC and Deer Creek Community Church. We want to make an investment with hearts, hands, and financial resources in partnership with Deer Creek.
