Youth Flag Football

Why flag football? We believe this format does a better job of teaching the true fundamentals of specific positions on the football field. Kids learn how to run routes, drop back to pass, give and receive hand-offs, and pursue the ball carrier on defense--all from DAY ONE. Because we take linemen and blocking out of the equation, we can teach many fundamentals players wouldn't learn elsewhere until much later.

When is the season?

Late July through October

How long is the season?

Nine to 10 weeks

How many games and how long are they?

Currently, our season is seven games long and each game takes approximately one hour to play. All games are played on Saturdays (with the exception of make-up games due to inclement weather).

What is the duration and frequency of practices?

Practices are currently one hour long, once a week.

When and how do we register?

Registration is preferred to be done online, beginning in May, ending mid August.  If you prefer to register manually, please contact the office at 773-2233.

How old does my child have to be to participate?

WRS is a grade-based program, not an age-based program. We offer leagues from kindergarten through 8th grade for both boys and girls. Operating off of our fiscal calendar which runs from August - July, a boy/girl must be in Kindergarten during the season in which they are playing to participate.

What is the registration cost? What does it include? What do I need to buy?

Your registration fee of $80, includes a team jersey, shorts, and a player kit. All team equipment for practice and games in regard to balls, cones, practice jerseys (pennies), etc., is provided by the league. Players will need to purchase their own athletic shoes. Football cleats are strongly recommended.

Do we have to be members of the church?

The league is designed as a community league open to anyone, regardless of church affiliation. Participants in the league are not required to be members of White River Christian Church or of any church.

Do you keep standings?

We do not keep standings, however, we do have a tournament for 4th-8th grade teams at the end of the season. The league is designed to teach and emphasize fundamentally sound soccer, provide players the opportunity to compete, while emphasizing a Christ like attitude.

Can I coach in the league?

Anyone is eligible to apply to coach in the league.  However, we do complete background checks on all coaching applicants and reserve the right to accept or decline coaches on the basis of our discretion.
