Five words or phrases to describe Corey: Music lover, competitive, energetic, coffee lover, a big kid

What others are saying about Corey:

  1. Corey is fun
  2. Corey is a huge dork
  3. Corey is continually developing as a leader and person

Where he learned his stuff: Corey was brought up in the church by his loving parents, Pat and Jackie, who were and are very involved in the church. He accepted Jesus at the age of 10 and was baptized by his father. Corey received his BS (Bachelor of Science....nothing else ;) ) Degree from Cincinnati Christian University in Biblical Studies and Youth Ministry.

How does he stay on top of the changing culture of Jr. Highers? He observes the surroundings and checks various informing sources.  Conversations with students and checking out Facebook helps a lot with this.

Significant others: Corey is single and he enjoys spending time with his immediate family. He also places great significance on his friends.

What are some of his gifts and talents? Great at working with youth, plays guitar & bass guitar and attempts the drums, sings, is good at connecting with people and brings respect, love, vision, and passion to the job/church

What makes him laugh? The church staff, friends & family, old people, physical comedy of all types

What make him cry? War movies, tributes to our soldiers, those special stories that ESPN runs, finding out that our students don't know people like Johnny Cash, Fred Astaire, or Bo Jackson , and when a sports show replays Christian Laettner (Boo Hiss) hitting the half court shot to beat the University of Kentucky Wildcats

What he loves: Family & friends, Jesus, music and coffee

What he hates: Nails on a chalkboard and biting into ice cream

His pet peeves: Disrespect of National Anthem/flag, messiness, animals dressed as humans, tardiness (cough*Micah Beckwith*cough)

His greatest fear: Not accomplishing what it is that God has put me here for and needles

Why did he want to work at White River? He sought WRCC because the church is in a great area and has its heart set on the right things.

Why is working at WRCC so great? The staff is great, the people are great and he gets to work for Jesus everyday.

A typical day in the life of Corey Willoughby: Wake up and make coffee; study/quiet time, journal; SportsCenter; head out the door to church; find coffee; find out what needs to be done and try my best to accomplish it; look for ministry opportunities and more coffee

What are his dreams for the future?

  1. That this ministry will prepare our students for life in the following ways:
    • Provide and equip them with the information needed to share their faith with others
    • Help them understand why we believe what we believe
    • Equip them with the knowledge to teach others
  2. To accomplish great things for the Kingdom

If he didn't work at WRCC: He would probably be working with youth in some other venue

What are his hobbies? Music (playing guitar and listening to/finding new music) & photography (time to reflect, think, and observe). Check out some of my pics at www.flickr.com/photos/coreywilloughby

What is Corey's secret ambition? To become a photographer for National Geographic.

What is his passion? To spread the Good News in whatever manner God wants.

What he's done for other churches: He was a Youth Intern at Kenwood Heights Christian Church in Louisville, KY and participated in worship band at First Church in Burlington, KY.

His thoughts on the church today: We are given the job of going out and proclaiming the Good News of Christ (Matthew: 28:19, 20). Our attempts at doing this are a work in progress. Much is being done in order to reach out to those who do not know Christ, but there is still much to be done. Along with this, we are also given the job of developing the faith of those already involved in the church. By doing this, we are equipping others with the knowledge and tools to go out and share their faith.

His best advice to aspiring pastors: The best advice that I can give to those wanting to become pastors is to get into the Word. You can never know enough about what it is we are teaching to others. There is always more to be learned from Scripture and the only way we can learn that is by getting into the Word. Develop a personal study time and stick to it.
