Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose for volunteering at WRCC?
WRCC is committed to helping you become like Jesus. Jesus said, "I did not come to be served but to serve." (Mark 10:45). We serve to follow the example of Christ, to bring glory to God and to meet the needs of others.

How do I know where to serve?
God has given every person at least 1 spiritual gift (passion, talent, ability) to use for His glory and to serve others. It is best to discover your passions, gifts, and talents THEN determine how to best use those for glorifying God and serving others. You can complete a Spiritual Gifts Inventory and then browse the Opportunities to Serve on this website.

Do I have to be a member of WRCC to volunteer?
NO! We want to help everyone find a place of service. Many opportunities exist for serving that do not require you to be a member. However, various opportunities DO require you to be a member of WRCC and some require a criminal background check or reference check. Membership does have its privileges.

What are the risks of serving?
It is highly likely that serving God will require you to trust God more, sacrifice your time and energy, and be willing to respond to the needs of others. You will discover more about God and experience spiritual growth as you serve. All of the risks are worth the benefits you'll be providing for others and the blessings you'll receive from God.

Can we serve as a family?
We would highly encourage husbands and wives to serve together, and if possible, include the children. Couples can serve as small group leaders/hosts, work in the nursery or children's ministry, visit fist time guests, and many other opportunities. Children are welcome to participate in serving in many opportunities as well.

Should I feel guilty for not volunteering?
If you are not serving God, you are not fulfilling your purpose as His creation. You are also missing the incredible blessing of meeting the needs of others and finding fulfillment in being used by God to further his mission and kingdom. However, if you are currently serving God by using your passions, gifts, and talents, in 1 or more ways, don't feel guilty for saying "no" to something else so you can focus on the areas you are currently serving. With everyone pitching in to serve, everything God has called us to do as a church can be accomplished. Do your part and encourage others to do the same.
